Our history in brief

The corporate history of Mikron of Biel has nearly always been related to the development of pioneering industries.
ndeed, the Maschinenfabrik Mikron AG was established in Biel in 1908, when watch-making was in the process of transforming from a handicraft to a precision industry. Its 35 employees wasted no time building up a reputation in this rapidly evolving sector, progressing from one success to another greater one as they constructed the machinery to produce the high precision components used in making Swiss watches. As it also started delivering its machinery to neighbouring countries, Mikron was soon laying the foundations for its international vocation.

Since 1945, the history of today's Mikron Agno has been linked closely to the advent of the ballpoint pen. From the very first day, the company that was then called Albe contributed to the development and production of the points for ballpoint pens. Mikron Holding took this company over in 1986.

Established in 1918 in the Neuchâtel Jura, Haesler SA, the parent company of today's Mikron Boudry, constructed its first transfer machines in 1925.
In 1962, the company merged into the Mikron Group, where it has been specialising in assembly systems since 1990.

Mikron engineering skills and the courage to tread new paths are the factors that triggered the development of the plastics technology sector in Biel. When the firms Isper and Essemmepi in Italy were bought up and the injection moulding facilities in Huddersfield (U.K.) and Anderson (U.S.A.) were constructed, Mikron's latest sector of activity grew to its current importance.

Mikron Holding AG was incorporated in Biel in 1961. The company went public in 1983.
